Who We Are
Brush & Quill Veteran Arts Newspaper is a free community newspaper—both online and in print—dedicated to highlighting the artistic voices of veterans across California. We believe that art is a powerful path to self‑expression, community, and healing. Through creative work—painting, poetry, photography, sculpture, mixed media, visual essays, and more—veterans share perspectives that might otherwise go unseen.
Our Mission
To amplify the veteran art community: giving veterans a platform to express their creative spirit, share their experiences, and connect with wider audiences.
To foster community and connection: bridging veterans with fellow artists, supporters, and local communities throughout California.
To inspire self-renewal and reflection: believing that art can open dialogues about identity, memory, purpose, mental health, transition
To revive the art of local, small-press journalism: celebrating the power of handcrafted print publications in an increasingly digital world.
To create space for tangible storytelling: ensuring that community newspapers continue to exist as physical, pass-along, and collectible expressions of local culture.
Our Story
We are a small family of artists—two of whom are veterans—united by a long-standing commitment to creativity, community, and service. Over the years, we’ve worn many hats: operating a local art studio, organizing community art events, running an independent art supply store, and building a thriving digital art and marketing design business.
Our journey with art isn’t just professional—it’s deeply personal. It’s how we connect, heal, and give back. Through countless glass, paper, canvas, theater, and collaborative projects, we’ve witnessed art’s power to tell stories, transform lives, and create community dialogue.
Brush & Quill was born from this shared legacy. It brings together our experience in the art world, our entrepreneurial spirit, and our unwavering dedication to fellow veterans. We’ve volunteered in veteran programs across California and seen firsthand how art opens doors that words alone cannot. Creating this newspaper was a natural next step—a way to elevate veteran voices, honor their creativity, and build bridges between military and civilian communities through the universal language of art.
