NVAM Artist Fellowship Applications Close April 1 — What the Program Offers

Applications for the 2027 NVAM Artist Fellowship closed on April 1, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. CST. The Fellowship is administered by the National Veterans Art Museum in Chicago and is open to practicing artists who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.
The Fellowship provides Fellows with between $3,000 and $30,000 in resources based on need, to develop a workshop and an exhibition. Fellows are matched with artists and arts educators — both veteran and non-veteran — for mentorship. The program culminates in a public exhibition at NVAM.
NVAM notes that the Fellowship also results in at least one of the Fellow’s artworks being preserved in the museum’s permanent collection.
The current 2025 Fellow is Jenn Hassin, whose exhibition at NVAM’s Milwaukee Avenue gallery is on view through a closing reception on June 13, 2026. Hassin is a U.S. Air Force veteran and MFA graduate of Columbia University. Her work has been exhibited at the Pentagon (via a Smithsonian-curated installation), The Contemporary Austin, Blue Star Contemporary, the Lenfest Center for the Arts, and NVAM, among others.
Applications for the 2028 Fellowship will open November 1, 2026. The application is processed through Submittable.
